Sunsets Capture the Colour

This week’s Sunday Sunset is a little different as I’m combining my usual feature with my submission to competition after I was nominated by Laura. They’re looking for five photos that capture the colours blue, green, yellow, white and red.

It’s no secret that I’m more than a little obsessed with sunrise and sunset photos and one of the reasons I love them so much is that each one is so different with a combination of so many gorgeous, bright colours. When you think of the colours in a sunset you probably think yellows and oranges but some of the most spectacular sunsets are filled with blues, greens and whites too.

So here are five of my favourite sunsets that Capture the Colour:

I took this photo in Exmouth, Western Australia. This was my favourite beach in the whole of Oz with the clearest, bluest sea I’ve ever seen in my life.

Finding a green sunset photo was pretty difficult so I’ve cheated a bit and gone with a sunrise. I took it on a plane tour over the Bungle Bungle range in Australia. In just an hour we flew over both lush, green fields and dry, barren outback.

This is a summers evening outside my parent’s house in Wales. It’s easy to forget how beautiful your own back yard is and I often take the UK for granted and don’t appreciate it enough. My bike had been trapped in the shed for years so my brother and I went for a bike ride like we used to all the time when we were kids.

This is Cape Tribulation in Australia. I love the way the sun is so bright it almost looks white and makes the sand look bleached.

And saving the best until last. I took this bright red sunset on Mackerel Island in Australia. I worked on the island for 6 months and never got bored of these stunning sunsets. This picture was taken at the end of the runway and you can just about make out the plane coming into land.

  1. Lovely pics Monica.

Please note: 4 out fo 5 of these are from Australia.

Country which has the best sunset award goes to…. 😛

    1. Nearly all of my favourite sunset pics are from Australia. Actually, nearly all of the photos I’ve ever taken were in Australia. So, when are you going to marry me so I can go and live there forever Nicole?

  2. Love your idea of using sunsets to capture the colour! The blue one is stunning! Apparently I need to then visit Australia 😉

    1. You definitely have to. It’s the most beautiful and diverse country in the world. I would love to go back there. Hint, hint Nicole!

  3. Absolutely gorgeous. I’m obsessed with sunsets too, but mine have all been reddy/purple so far. I really like the red one.

  4. I think your “yellow” photo is just to die for. It’s amazing that you’ve been able to pull all these different colours from sunsets (and one sunrise!).

  5. All of these photos are stunning! I really love that you were able to find sunsets (or sunrises) that fit all the colours. It really is an interesting take on the theme.

I really love your yellow shot, but I also love that all of the others were taken in Australia! Australia really does do sunsets well.

Thanks so much for nominating me! I’ve been poring over my photos for weeks trying to choose which ones I might use, but now I’ll have to actually make some decisions!

    1. Thanks Laurence. It’s funny that a lot of people seem to like the green shot, that’s the one I’m least keen on. Just goes to show that everyone’s opinion of what makes a good picture is so different!

    1. Hi David. Yes of course, if there’s a link back to my blog then that’s no problem at all. Which one would you like to use?

    1. Thanks 🙂 I wanted to do something a bit different but it also made it so much easier to chose. It would take me forever if I had to choose from all my photos!

  6. I love how all the sunsets have different colours. It’s refreshing to not just see reds and oranges in the shots. Very nice!
